Why is surface preparation so important before applying any coating? ο The secret to a successful application depends on how well the surface is prepared before the rust converter and primer or top paint coat is applied. Removal of loose rust, dirt and oils in essential to provide the best chance of adhesion and reaction ο RostPrep is a specifically designed rust removal product as well as a surface preparation agent. By using RostPrep, you will be guaranteed of a well prepared surface
What is rust? ο Rust is the common name for iron oxide ο Corrosion is an electrochemical process involving an anode, an electrode and a cathode. When metal corrodes, the electrolyte helps provide oxygen to the anode. As oxygen and metal combine, electrons are liberated. When they flow through the electrolyte to the cathode, the metal of the anode disappears, swept away by the electrical flow or converted into metal cations in the form of rust ο For iron to become iron oxide, three things are required - iron, water and oxygen
Why does metal rust more in salty environments? ο The chemical compounds found in liquids like acid rain and seawater make them better electrolytes than pure water, allowing their presence to speed the process of rusting on iron and other forms of corrosion on other metals
What is the benefit of using a resin-based rust converter? ο The resin coating will prevent water and oxygen from reacting with the iron surface ο The resin coating will not neutralise with water
What is the benefit of using an all-in-one resin-based rust converter? ο By incorporating a colour into the rust converter, there is no need to apply a top coat ο The advantages of using a 3-in-1 product include cost reduction and time saving
